After 26 years of waiting, finally the Fluminense fans can finally celebrate. Although they suffered just a little more on Sunday. However, with the 1-0 victory over Guarani the Engenhão Stadium, Fluminense won its third title Brazilian history, which has been competed for in its present format since 1971. The "saviour" goal came 16 minutes from the end of the second half, scored by the striker Emerson. Besides tthe Brazilian championship the Tricolor has won three more major domestic trophies: the Silver Trophy in 1970, the 1984 Brazilian Championship and Brazil Cup in 2007.

On this victorious campaign, special mention should be made to Dario Conca. The Argentine ended this  Brazileirão as an ever-present, the only player to take the field in all 38 rounds of the competition.

Corinthians, one those team’s fighting for the title finished the competition in third place. The club reached the last round of the Brazilian Championship needing a win against already relegated Goiás, who took the field with a reserve team to spare its athletes the finals of the Copa Sulamericana. Furthermore, they needed a Guarani victory or over Fluminense or for the match to end in a draw. While Fluminense fulfilled its role by beating Guarani at Rio de Janeiro Ronaldo's team could only draw 1-1 in the Serra Dourada Stadium

Meanwhile, Cruzeiro finish the competition in second beating Palmeiras for 2-1. But good winds blew for the “Carioca” team. Cruzeiro finished in their best position ever since they were crowned champions back in 2003.

This is remarkable as the same Fluminense squad were almost relegated to the second division in 2009. In that occasion they had the worst attack and also the most fragile defence. In that time one renowned mathematician predicted the team had only 6% chance that they wouldn't be relegated! However, contrary to these predictions preview the team showed  how to be a winner and amazingly got their “hands” in the title.

Congratulations Fluminense for a truly beautiful campaign!

After two further rounds the situation has completely changed, thanks to a slip up by Corinthians.  They had an eye in Salvador supporting São Paulo FC, needing the away team (an arch enemy) to defeat Fluminense in the Barueri Arena Stadium, whilst being aware that a victory in Barradão would shorten the distance to the title.
The plan to follow the Brazilian leader failed. In Bahia, Corinthians drew with Vitoria, 1-1, as result they lost the leadership.

Fluminense took the lead thanks to the superb victory over São Paulo, 4-1. To worsen the situation for Corinthians, Ronaldo was injured.

Relegation-threatened, the opponent, Victoria had reason to want to prevent the success of Corinthians but the draw in Barradão was not good for either of them. Just one step away from the title, Fluminense would almost be crowned Champions in the next round, if they sealed victory against Palmeiras (another of Corinthians arch enemies).

Before the match started, the pressure was great for Palmeiras to take the game to Fluminense. The crowd came to the green club to make a strong protest in front of the training centre asking fervently for the club to be defeated.  But the coach Luiz Felipe Scolari was against this, and put the first team to play.

Corinthians did their homework and more than 36,000 fans were crammed into the Pacaembu, on Sunday afternoon and beat Vasco (Fluminense’s Arch enemy) 2-0 with goals from Bruno Cesar and Danilo. However, they couldn’t count on the help of arch-rival Palmeiras, who eventually lost to Fluminense 2-1 in the Arena Barueri, despite Big Phil putting out his strongest side.

In third, Cruzeiro, still dream about the title, the club secured two victories when they defeated Vasco (Fluminense’s arch rival)s by 3-1 and Flamengo by 2-1.

In the last round of the Brasileirão, Corinthians visit Goiás already relegated, and have to support Guarani another team at the bottom of the table, hoping they will beat Fluminense.  Finally for Cruzeiro to become champions, they must defeat Palmeiras, and hope that Fluminense lose, which, by the way, is quite impossible.

This Brasileirão is full of mortal enemies, helping or not helping the other clubs that fight for the title, there exists one particular practice that lives in the ancient football history, maybe you heard about it one day or maybe you read about it, it’s possible that the name changes from country to country through the football history, this practice is called ‘White Bag’.

The Corinthians Captain Willian has called for the legalization of the white bag, but denies any kind of bribe.  Corinthians avoid talking about awards for Guarani and know that any kind of mention of the subject can suffer strong retaliation from the Superior Tribunal of Sports Justice. But the white bag has become the main issue in this final round of the Brasileirão. Favorable to the "legalization" of incentives to third parties, the team captain, William, says he is unaware of any contacts with the Guarani management offering money.

The defender believes that created a pejorative image of Corinthians, giving the impression that only the club can be involved. Cruzeiro and Fluminense can also offer additional awards to other teams, notes William.

Apart from this controversy, this competition is due to come to the end, and we football supporters hope that in the end there’s no white bag or promises for a future reward, because the only reward that the fans search in the future besides the title for the club is a net full of goals.
